I want a space to talk and express my thoughts surrounding the makeup industry and be more in depth than just Instagram (even though I loooove using Instagram).

Talk soon,

Charlotte xx

Ball Season is here!

Hi everyone!

It's officially ball season!! Last weekend was the Wakatipu Highschool Formal, and I had my first ball clients of the year. A group of four girl were excited to get their glam on for the big night.
What was actually really cool about these girls was that some of them had never worn or only minimally worn it, so it really was a transformation. Formal makeup has got to be my favourite to do, especially when they haven't worn much makeup before because they ask a lot of questions so it's fun to educate them at the same time, having them leave knowing more about makeup, as well as looking absolutely stunning!

The girls all came with photos/ideas of the look they were wanting - which gets both the client and the artist on the same page about what kind of look to go for. I feel that these looks were timeless and classy. A big focus on the skin with these girls as they all had beautiful skin to start off with, even one of them requesting that she still wanted her fre…

ID Fashion Show 2018

ID Dunedin was launched in 1999 and quickly became internationally recognised. The week is made up of many events such as fashion shows, exhibitions, shopping events, designer and fashion interviews etc. The event that I was very honoured to be involved with was the International Emerging Designer Show. It was a huge show this year, showcasing the 44 finalist designers from all over the world. This event is the only competition in Australasia for emerging designers and one where they can show their work off to the world.

Our crew was very lucky to be under the guidance and direction of Lisa Matson, the director of L'Oreal Paris New Zealand. She designed two amazing looks for the two nights, following a 'genderless' theme. The first night's look was focused on the base with lovely glowy skin, a decent contour and elongated bold brows. I LOVED this look as it was bold, but emphasising natural beauty. Night two - now this look was stunning. A real 'fashion' look. …

Inspiring Makeup Artists

The advancement of social media has allowed makeup artists to show their work to the world and expand their reach enormously. There are around 800 Million Instagram users, so that in itself is a huge platform to be a part of. Since starting up my Instagram page for my freelance makeup, I have discovered so many talented artists but there's a few that find very inspirational and motivate me to learn more.

To start is @makeupbyannalee (her freelance account is @makeupbyannalee_clients). Annalee is a New Zealander and is making us Kiwi's proud by doing her thing. She is incredibly talented and has been a true inspiration for me to start doing what I love. She recently released a video called "Brushed Aside" where she talks about her passion for makeup and her journey towards doing what she loves. "The comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing grows in it". This quote has encouraged me with taking a step towards doing what I love.

Number two is @angiedib w…

What's in my Makeup Collection? - Highlighters

What's in my collection? Highlighters ✨

I've decided to do a series of blog posts and show you all what's in my makeup collection! Hopefully you guys enjoy it, let me know your thoughts and what else you would like to see!

One of my very favourite makeup items has to be highlighters! To be honest it's a recent obsession I've discovered and I'm now like a magpie with sparkly objects, I MUST HAVE THEM ALL!!! Everyone tends to have a particular makeup item they love to collect, from lipsticks to mascaras. As well as highlighters, I also love to collect eyeshadow palettes, but we shall keep that for another time.

As you can see in the photos, I tend to like powder formulas more than cream or liquids, but I'm trying my best to get out of my comfort zone and try new things. There's a few staples in my collection, including Mac Soft and Gentle and The Balm Mary Lou (if you don't have either of these, giiiirl you're missing out!!) and then a few of the…

This is always a topic in the makeup industry, and there are many different opinions too. Sometimes it can be very true, that you “get what you pay for” but this is not always the case. I think that there are always going to be hits and misses with pretty much any makeup brand. This can vary from person to person because everyone has different skin types, so one product could work really well for an individual, but not for another. A lot of the time is comes down to trial and error.
In my makeup collection, and my makeup kit, I have a combination of both drugstore and highend makeup. Some people wear by high end, and with certain products I can agree. But many of the drug store brands are really stepping up with game! The new Maybelline Superstay Full Coverage foundation is a recent discovery and has been considered a dupe for the Huda Beauty Faux Filter foundation. I’m currently testing it out myself, and plan on trialing it in my kit in the near future!  The hig…

Product Review - Juvia's Place The Festival Eyeshadow Palette

"Juvia's is a cosmetic brand providing you with the most rich, vibrant and highly pigmented essential colors of life that takes you from the office to the Caribbean Islands and everywhere in between! We created Juvia's  as a way to provide beauty enthusiasts an affordable collection of colorful eye shadows, makeup tools and beauty essentials"

This brand is a recent discovery of mine, and boy oh boy I'm glad I found it! The Festival Palette retails for $21.50 USD and has 9 absolutely beautiful shades. The palette itself is very strong cardboard, and feels very durable and sturdy. Alrighty, to the eyeshadow! These pack some serious pigment, and the colours are so creamy and vibrant! Even though they're very pigmented, they're super easy to blend, both with blending them out and blending shades together. The palette contains a mix of matte and shimmer shades. Who am I kidding the shimmers are more like foil shadows. Even though the palette is very bold, it …

The Power Of Social Media

Social Media is now a part of everyone's lives. Whether you're on there to keep up with what others are doing, to share your life story, as a business or company, it can have a substantial effect on  your life. With regards to the beauty industry, social media is a great way to connect and network with like-minded individuals, for brands to promote products, to keep up to date with new trends. I like to think that the majority of what I have to do with social media is of a positive nature. It really is a great tool to use to get your content out and viewed by people, get inspiration for new looks, techniques and products to try, and of course connect with and support people all over New Zealand (and the world) who are passionate about makeup and beauty! At times it can be difficult to get in touch with likeminded individuals, I know in Dunedin there are not very many beauty related courses that would allow that connection to develop. So being able to utilise Instagram for exa…
