Welcome!

Hey there!

Welcome to my blog, and thank you for taking your time to check it out! I'm a Freelance Makeup Artist based in Queenstown, New Zealand. Makeup is my passion, it has been for years, but I've finally taken a leap of faith into it and actually doing my thing. Please feel free to subscribe to my blog, and flick me an email on csutherlandmakeup@gmail.com to become a part of my mailing list for exclusive content!

A little bit about my plans for this blog.. I'll be posting about life as a makeup artist, makeup reviews, hauls, must haves.. Basically anything and everything makeup and beauty related! I want a space to talk and express my thoughts surrounding the makeup industry and be more in depth than just Instagram (even though I loooove using Instagram).

Talk soon,

Charlotte xx

My First "Real" Client

I was so nervous for this! Luckily it was a friend, her sisters and mother who were my first "real" clients, but of course I still wanted to be professional and do a great job.
The night before, I made sure that I had everything packed that I needed and all of my brushes I would need were clean. Next was to try and find something to wear that would look professional, but still be comfortable enough to move around in. I opted for black (it always looks good) and boots (I've now come to the conclusion that this was a terrible idea as my feet were killing me front standing for about 6 hours straight haha). I arrived at my clients location early in order to set everything up. I had a huge range of products as the girls were all wearing different colours, had different skin types and tones. I'm so glad that I came prepared!  The whole experience was amazing. I hadn't had much experience with mature makeup before, but I have to say I thought I id a darn good job. Her s…

Why I Love The Beauty Industry

This industry combines diversity, creativity and expression. It allows people to express their individuality and personality, to engage with others over a shared passion, and to enhance their appearance in a simple way. I personally find this industry fantastic, with the range of beauty involved, e.g. Makeup, skin care, hair, modelling, photography.. the list goes on. I believe that this community is surrounded with such positivity from the individuals that consider themselves a part of the beauty industry. This profession has so much to offer, to both entrepreneurs, buisnesses, and your everyday Joe Blogs.
One of the main reasons that I've chosen to submerge myself in this area of work is the pure happiness and positivity. There really is no better feeling than achieving a clients desired look for an event. Whether it be for a photoshoot, their special wedding day, a school formal, it truely is the best feeling. Both of accomplishment but also satisfaction knowing that the clien…

Making the Move

For years I have had a passion for makeup. When I was 12 years old, my parents paid for me to do a modelling and self confidence course with the AliMcD Modelling Agency here in Dunedin. This course also showed me the world of beauty and makeup. I think this is where it all started. We learnt the basics about makeup, the do's and don'ts, applying it to ourselves etc. When it came to photoshoot time, I was obsessed with how my makeup looked for it. From then on, I made it a mission of mine to keep up with the makeup and beauty industry.

A few years on, I started using my mothers makeup, of course telling her that I was using my own. I was amazed with the way makeup can hide but also accentuate features. I started to collect more of my own makeup, whether it was cheap drug store products, or products I had 'borrowed' from my mothers makeup bag. I would watch so many YouTube tutorials to procrastinate from my school work. Once I was about 19/20 years old, my collection had…
